Are Ramen Noodles Fried?

But are they really healthy? As we all know, fried foods are not necessarily the best for you in terms of health.

If you have found yourself wondering whether ramen noodles are fried or not then you have come to the right place because we are going to discuss that topic in length.

How Are Ramen Noodles Made?

When we are talking about ramen noodles we are talking about two main methods in this article.

The first method we cover will be the commercial method and the second is the method you may follow if you were to make ramen noodles from scratch at home.

How Commercial Ramen Noodles Are Made

We have all seen or tasted those delicious instant ramen noodles. But how are they made? The basic method is:

  • Step 1 – First the flour, starch, water, salt, kansui, and phosphoric acid are all mixed together.
  • Step 2 – The next thing that will happen will be the dough being flattened.
  • Step 3 – Once that has happened the noodles will be sliced into strips and then cut into individual noodles.
  • Step 4 – Next, those strips are divided into portions that can be cooked and prepared.
  • Step 5 – Once the noodles have been divided they are then steamed, dried, and cooled down so that they can be packaged once they are ready.
  • Step 6 – While the noodles are drying they are incorporated with oil.
  • Step 7 – Once the noodles have been dried out they will then be packaged and sent off to other shops to be sold.

This is the basic method that is used when ramen noodles are made commercially.

During this process, they get steamed and deep-fried at high temperatures, both of which will reduce the water content to between three and six percent.

The reason water needs to be removed as much as possible is so that when the noodles are packaged they will last longer on the shelf before going bad.

How Homemade Ramen Noodles Are Made

If you are making ramen noodles from home there are some steps that you will not need to follow that the commercial instant ramen noodles must go through.

Below is a simple rendition of the steps that you will need to follow to make ramen noodles at home:

  • Step 1 – The first thing you will need to do is mix all the ingredients together to form a dough which will need to be kneaded for a while before you allow it to rest for between thirty minutes to an hour. The ingredients you will need are as follows: Baking soda, salt, water, bread flour, and wheat gluten.
  • Step 2 – Once your dough has been rested for a while you will need to roll out the dough into sheets. You can use a pasta roller or a rolling pin for this task.
  • Step 3 – Once you have a good sheet of the dough you should allow it to rest for a while before you fold the dough in half and send it through the roller again.
  • Step 4 – Next you will cut the dough using a knife or the pasta maker. Once you have your noodles cut it is recommended that you sprinkle them with flour so that they do not stick together and lose their shape.
  • Step 5 – Now all you need to do is twist your ramen noodles into nests and allow them to dry out before you cook them up for dinner.

As you can see, with this method ramen noodles are not fried during the whole process, unlike commercially-made instant ramen noodles.

This method is usually the one that is used by traditional ramen restaurants as the noodles would be fresh and more delicious.
